Note that the cost of housing in rural areas of California has skyrocketed due to the transition to remote work
Rubi Saldana

How we are making sure that all the services are given that it supposed to be ?
Rubi Saldana

Good morning this is Rubi Saldana ICC- Integradora thank you to all of you to have us this morning

The Community Placement Plan funds have traditionally been used to take people out of developmental centers and put them in the community. But now that the centers are closed, the priority should be on helping people already in the community who are in crisis. Latino families don’t even know that they can get help if their child is in a crisis. These funds aren’t really helping our families.
Rubi Saldana
46:30
Also say that these agendas are complicated and that, as a parent, we aren’t able to participate in the same way. These meetings should be about people with disabilities and family members. we need more training to prepare. I just got the agenda yesterday. I don’t think this is fair this is a very important topic for us we know the rural areas very well I will send more feed back by email to ensure that I’m serving the most that I can .

The system of putting consumers in these care homes that are not serving the needs of the consumer, is costly. These homes are not monitored by the regional centers and consequently a lot of things happen that are detrimental to the consumers. I also think this People should not have more than one house because it is already a problem to monitor the services that they supposed to give and medication that are given there, people who have more than one house are not providing quality of services, there should be a private entity that monitors them and ensure quality of life and monitor medications. Also we should create a PLAN FOR THE IDD community to buy a house and choose their own services and care givers.
Amy Wall

Please make sure to share who you are when you start speaking, it helps our interpreters.
Rubi Saldana
52:45
That would lower the cost and will give a voice to this individuals. If we could create a plan for the IDD community to own their own house instead paying others homes that many time do not give the necessary and quality services, Imagine if we create some plan for this individuals to own this homes ? They would contribute to the system .
Pamela Kerman
55:41
I really agree with the “whole person” approach. I think that is missing from current services.
Rebecca Leinhard
55:50
Excellent insight, Carol.

I don’t have a raise hand option
Suzy Requarth, SDRC
55:58
i have a comment as well
Amanda Pyle
56:03
my “reaction/raise hand” feature isn’t working - I’d recommend piloting SLS and day services with an EBSH style funding model for individuals who may not need/want an EBSH
Charlotte Kelly
57:18
I see panelists are having issues "raising hands" so next is Pamela, Suzy, Amanda and then Karen.
Charlotte Kelly
01:00:56
If you don't have "raise" hand at the bottom of your screen, click "participants" and a new window will pop open. At the bottom of that new window should be a "raise hand" button. Otherwise, saying you have comments in chat will work!
Rebecca Leinhard
01:02:41
Excellent comments, Erica. Thank you.

We need to maintain all options of employment until we have successful replacements otherwise the clients choices could be limited.
Rubi Saldana
01:12:40
Im agree with that comment
Rubi Saldana
01:13:10
Rubí again from ICCUnder SDP will be easier to find employees since it will make it easy for us to employ us directly and make sure that the quality service for which you are paying is given
Suzy Requarth, SDRC
01:13:57
There are groups/agencies out there developing these kinds of marketplaces. I believe this is the best way to provide support to people looking for providers - a third party entity. So we avoid Regional Center 2.0 :-)
Rubi Saldana
01:17:16
We have a dream , . Who better to take care if our children, then people like us!!
Pamela Scarano
01:19:46
All options should be advertised whether Self Determination is their pick or a program that can truly meet an individuals needs. All are capable of being person centered and directed.
Rubi Saldana
01:20:44
An innovative idea would be to create the plan that I already said to push for the state to create a plan for the IDD community to buy their own houses as they have different programs for new buyers, these houses would belong to the clients and they would contribute to the system in instead of being dependent.

The individual I know down here who wants to create a web based system has a really good point about the platform - Yelp like reviews by persons served. That would be very powerful feedback for quality of services.
Suzy Requarth, SDRC
01:26:02
I worry about online review services because there are so many ways to bolster your own rating or end up with a very poor rating based on a single review… larger providers would likely end up with an advantage… but maybe it makes sense to just include that person or agency’s link to it if they are on a review site like Yelp
Rubi Saldana
01:26:41
Thank you to everyone I have another meeting at 11:00 pm but I really appreciate your time leave my thoughts in the chat but I will send it together via email. Imagine all the cost of this houses plus Ihss it should be the best of the best.
Eileen Easterbrook
01:29:18
I agree with the last speaker that SLS folks could be trained to do day program type activities and teaching for the individuals they serve so we can utilize their time with our folks more productively.
Carole Watilo
01:30:05
a comment on providers being willing and able to provide supported employment in addition to employment supports funded through regional centers - for small providers CARF costs can be prohibitive. Is there a way to look at quality assurance done differently for smaller providers?
Marcia Eichelberger
01:30:05
I agree with Connie Boyar's comments.
Carole Watilo
01:32:47
It would be a big undertaking but the IHSS SLS issue is a big one. Looking at how to braid that funding would be amazing
Erica Beall
01:33:59
CARF is antiquated from large physical facility settings of our history, would be great to move to something more fitting of community work and that is less prohibitive for small providers.
Eileen Easterbrook
01:37:32
Very good point from Mary Ellen. Safety is a huge concern of parents for community based services if a person isn’t accompanied by a staff person. This impedes integration into community activities as well as employment.
Brien Farrell
01:37:42
Is crime victimization of regional center consumers available? It could help understand the nature of the problem? What would it take to get it? Police departments do not track crime based on who is a regional center consumer.
Karen Mulvany
01:38:48
Connie Frenzel's suggestion to clarify ADU and Junior ADUs with respect to eligibility for SLS are a definite need!
Erica Beall
01:42:23
Very good point Karen.

Rebecca Leinhard
01:49:11
I need to jump off to another meeting. Thank you for an insightful dialogue.
Pamela Scarano
01:49:34
I agree with Carole's comments relax on regulations to allow flexibility.
Suzy Requarth, SDRC
01:49:56
That’s an interesting idea (if I’m understanding correctly) - giving people the option of having an individual budget still within traditional service system and create their service plan within the realm of vendored providers; that could lead to some interesting innovations
Eileen Easterbrook
01:52:49
Great discussion and suggestions today. I need to leave and report to jury duty.
