100% agree on higher rates in dsp for supported employment and supported living.

Maybe we could use feedback from various states to implement in our state (e.g. NY data might be more applicable to LA, whereas a more rural state might be more applicable to far northern CA)
Ron Killingsworth
01:33:52
The discussion we are having is very good and important but I believe we need to have the employment community involved in the discussion to ensure the direction we are going is doable and supported. Corporate and community employers should be included due to the scope of the need...

Either within this Workgroup or as a subgroup/event, I think hearing from a diverse panel of employers who now understand, recognize and appreciate the contributions of their employees with I/DD would be very informative. What were the best and most problematic aspects of their experience with bringing employees on? what was valuable (and not) in what DOR, RCs and service providers had to offer in terms of job development and on the job support?
Mark Melanson

Agreed Suad!! 👏🏼👏🏼 If we are to improve access we need to look at the entire process. Beginning with discovery. Also the complexities of the DOR/DDS 2 door access.

Completely agree with Suad about trying to clarify and simplify the roles of DOR and Regional Center for service providers as well as for families.
Eric Zigman

In terms of workgrup focus: 1) stay person centered not only in customized employment, but supporting individuals in defining their interests and aspirations in terms of meaningful work and 2) focus on Employers, not only on investing in more robust Job Development and Job Coaching, but also engaging in Employers (large, medium and SMALL) around having real employer education and comfort/skill building in managing diverse employees.

I am excited about the DSP Workforce training/certification and pay differentials. I think this is a way that DDS can impact the quality and number of employment outcomes. Hoping this training centers on family engagement, employer engagement, discovery- customized employment, systematic instruction and business principles.
